Pattern analysis in customer transactions

My PHD project is focused on the transaction analysis by discovering patterns with pattern analysis / pattern mining algorithms. I read many papers about the high utility pattern analysis / mining. I want to find new optimizations and make new incremental method to analyze patterns. Where I should start?
